Island House was purchased in 1999 by Jon Allen and Martin Kay, a gay couple from Key West. Since purchasing the property they have worked with prominent local architects, designers, and contractors on an award-winning renovation of the property including the guest rooms, the common areas and the gardens together with new Cafe and Bar and a Health Club. More than $2,500,000 has been invested in bringing the property up to the highest standards.

The exteriors of the buildings have been completely redone, with new insulation, siding, and shutters. New roofs have been put on.

Extensive landscaping has transformed the public areas into a tropical paradise.

A new cafe and bar have been constructed poolside, serving meals continuously from 8:30 in the morning until 10:00 in the evening. A full liquor license has been obtained, allowing you to enjoy your favorite beverages as you relax.

An extensive clothing optional sundeck has been constructed on the second floor, with a misting system to ensure comfort on the sunniest days. Of course the sundeck is clothing optional, as are all the common areas of the Hotel (except the gym where shoes and shorts are required.)

A new lobby and state of the art Health Club are in place.

The guest rooms have been completely renewed, with new bathrooms, plumbing, wiring, ceilings, walls, Italian ceramic tile floors, furniture, air conditioners, TV/VCRs, draperies and bed linens. The decor is tropical and masculine. Original art from the owners' collection of male art graces the walls.
